New Zealand have failed to qualify for the quarter-finals at the junior men's hockey World Cup in India following a 3-3 draw with Spain.

Needing victory in their final pool game in Lucknow to advance, the Kiwi under-21 side led twice in the second half and will now play in the 9th-12th classification games.

Their goalscorers were Jonty Keaney, Dylan Thomas and Sam Hiha.

After opening with a 1-0 win over winless Japan, New Zealand lost 2-1 to top qualifiers Germany.
