NZ goalkeeper Nayler signs for US club

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 2/05/2016

First-choice New Zealand goalkeeper Erin Nayler's career has taken a leap after signing for leading United States club Sky Blue FC.

The New Jersey-based club has contracted Nayler early in their National Women's Soccer League season, with coach Christy Holly talking up the value of her proven international quality.

"Bringing Erin to New Jersey is something we have been trying to get done for quite some time," Holly said.

"She comes to us with plenty of international experience, including in both the World Cup and Olympics, and she will be a great addition to a very solid group of goalkeepers that we have here."

Nayler, 24, has played 31 internationals for the Football Ferns, including all three games at last year's World Cup in Canada.

She was captain of national league champions Northern Football, a side coached by Scotsman Paul Greig, who has since signed as assistant coach at Sky Blue FC.

The club is sixth out of 10 teams three rounds into the new season.
