NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 25/06/2016

Rio Olympic golf hopefuls Michael Hendry and Ryan Fox have both lost ground at respective tournaments in Japan and Scotland.

Third-ranked New Zealander Hendry was fifth at the midway point of the ISPS Handa Global Cup tournament in Ishikawa but he slipped to 16th with a one-over 72 in his third round.

Hendry is on seven-under, seven strokes behind Argentine leader Emiliano Grillo.

Kiwi No.2 on the world rankings Fox dropped six places to a share of eighth at a second-tier Challenge Tour event, the Scottish Hydro Challenge in Aviemore.

A one-under 70 in his third round left Fox on 12-under, six shots off English leader James Heath.

The two New Zealanders are best placed to secure a second Olympic berth alongside top-ranked Danny Lee at Rio.

Qualifying is based on world rankings on July 11. Fox, at 221st, held a narrow lead over Hendry (234th) before this week.
