NZ golfers miss Open cut

New Zealanders Danny Lee and Steve Alker have both missed the cut at the Open Championship in Scotland.

World No.40 Lee finished nine strokes outside the cut-off at Royal Troon, adding another bogey-laden 77 to his opening 78 for a two-round total of 155.

Lee has now missed the cut in four of his seven major appearances.

Alker fared slightly better but still missed the cut by two strokes, firing five bogeys and just one birdie for a second-round four-over 75.

Swashbuckling American Phil Mickelson followed up his sizzling 63 with a second-round 69 to hold the lead, one stroke ahead of Henrik Stenson.

The Swede rammed home eight birdies in a six-under 65 for a two-round total of 133, two strokes ahead of Danish golfer Soren Kjeldsen and American Keegan Bradley.
