The NZGP, which is currently the season finale for the Toyota Racing Series, has been staged at the circuit near Palmerston North since 2008.

The decision on future hosting rights was made by MotorSport New Zealand, promoter Speed Works Events and Toyota New Zealand.

The opportunity to run the event for the next three to five years had also attracted a proposal from Hampton Downs and an expression of interest from Pukekohe Park.

Last year, MSNZ appointed Speed Works as promoter of the premier race championships.

The 2017 NZGP in February at Manfeild, on a circuit renamed Circuit Chris Amon in honour of the late motorsport great, attracted nearly twice as many spectators as the previous year.

MSNZ president Wayne Christis says the momentum from that event and the support of seven city and district councils in the Horizons Regional Council area were factors in Manfeild's favour.
