New Zealand are Oceania under-20 rugby champions for a third successive year after thumping Australia 43-6 in the final on the Gold Coast.

The New Zealanders scored six unanswered tries, five of which were converted by first five-eighth Tiaan Falcon.

Australia dominated the opening stages, leading 3-0 before New Zealand captain Luke Jacobson powered across off the back of a dominant scrum for the first of his two tries.

It gave his team a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

New Zealand became more expansive as the match wore on, creating tries for Isaia Walker-Leawere, Will Jordan, Tamati Ruka Tua, Tom Christie and Jacobson.

Both teams are preparing for the under-20 world championships in Georgia.

Earlier, Samoa beat Fiji 39-29 in a clash of the winless teams.
