NZ learn U17 women's World Cup opponents

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 30/05/2016

New Zealand have drawn hosts Jordan, Spain and Mexico in their pool for the under-17 women's World Cup.

The Young Football Ferns will play in three different cities in a pool campaign which starts against Mexico in Amman on September 30. They face European qualifying runners-up Spain in Irbid four days later and Jordan in Zarga on October 7.

New Zealand have never advanced beyond pool play at the four previous editions of the biennial tournament.

Their lone win came at the inaugural tournament, hosted by New Zealand in 2008, when they upset Colombia.

The Young Football Ferns won a ludicrously lop-sided Oceania qualifying tournament in the Cook Islands in January.

The scored 55 unanswered goals across five games, including an 8-0 win over Papua New Guinea in the final.
