Three New Zealand MPs will be among delegates from 27 nations at an Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Fiji this week.

Labour's Carmel Sepuloni will lead the delegation, joined by National's Parmjeet Parmar and Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox.

Speaker David Carter says the dynamic and diverse region is increasingly important.

"The challenges of our time, from food security and poverty alleviation to combating the impacts of climate change, will not be achieved without significant regional cohesion and co-operation," he said ahead of the forum, which begins on Sunday.

This year's forum will have an overarching theme of peace and security, with free trade, the environment and advancement of freedom and democracy.

Ms Sepuloni, Dr Parmar and Ms Fox are all expected to speak at the forum which runs until January 20.
