New Zealand have ended an unsuccessful campaign at badminton's Sudirman Cup on a winning note on Queensland's Gold Coast.

The Kiwis beat Austria 3-1 in a classification game to finish 19th at the biennial mixed teams world championship.

They had suffered three losses in the division two group phase - involving nations ranked 13th to 20th - going down to Vietnam 4-1, Scotland 4-1 and Canada 5-0.

The win over Austria included victories for women's singles player Sally Fu and two doubles combinations - siblings Susannah and Oliver Leydon-Davis in mixed doubles and the men's pairing of Kevin Dennerly-Minturn and Oliver Leydon-Davis.
