Kiwis Joe Meyer and Tim Price have slipped out contention to win the first four-star event of the year in Lexington, Kentucky.

Beijing Olympian Meyer is 18th among the 41 riders still in contention after the taxing cross country phase while Rio Olympian Price is 39th.

Meyer, riding Clip Clop, went clear but picked up 15.6 time penalties to be on 73.0 points overall.

He is 34.3 points behind Germany Olympic champion Michael Jung, who looks set to claim a third straight Kentucky title on board Fischerrocana FST.

Price's mount Ringwood Sky Boy knocked down two rails and picked up time penalties to slump to 121.3 points.
