Rowing New Zealand is set to name a new women's sweep coach following the resignation of Dave Thompson.

Thompson, a full-time coach at RNZ since 2009, has accepted an overseas offer.

The 49-year-old oversaw successful Olympic campaigns for two women's crews in Rio.

The pair of Rebecca Scown and Genevieve Behrent won a silver medal while the women's eight finished fourth in their maiden Olympic appearance.

Chief executive Simon Peterson says a replacement coach will be named on Monday.

"We are disappointed to lose a successful and dedicated coach but respect the opportunity provided to Dave early in this Olympic cycle. We wish him well," Peterson said.
