World player of the year Beauden Barrett has a shot at winning two major prizes at the New Zealand Rugby awards.

Game-breaking Hurricanes and All Blacks first five-eighth Barrett is nominated twice for gongs at the awards on December 15.

He and unsuccessful World Rugby player award nominee Dane Coles are in contention to claim the New Zealand player of the year prize, along with lock Sam Whitelock.

Barrett is also in contention to claim the Super Rugby player award after the Hurricanes claimed a maiden title. The other finalists are his team-mate Ardie Savea and Chiefs fullback Damian McKenzie.

The All Blacks are in line to claim team of the year honours after winning 13 of 14 Tests, with the Hurricanes and the unbeaten Black Ferns the other finalists.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen could be crowned coach of the year for a fifth straight year. His rivals are Chris Boyd (Hurricanes), Scott Robertson (Canterbury) and Steve Jackson (North Harbour).

The captains of the World No.1-ranked Black Ferns (Fiao'o Fa'amausili) and the Olympic silver medal-winning Black Ferns Sevens (Sarah Goss) are nominated for the women's player and women's sevens player of the year awards.
