Olympic great Lisa Carrington returns to her favoured K1 200m at the world championships in the Czech Republic, after a powerful four-strong team was announced.

Carrington will again join Kayla Imrie, Caitlin Ryan and Aimee Fisher in the team for the championships in August, after the quartet raked in plenty of gold medals at two World Cup regattas in Europe in May.

Between them, they won six golds, including consecutive titles in the K4 500m, with Ryan and Fisher also claiming individual medals as Carrington focused on team boats.

However, Carrington will carry the individual duties in Racice, attempting to defend the K1 200m and 500m titles she won in 2015. She is a two-time Olympic champion in the shorter event.

The foursome are likely to compete as a K4 after snaring twin World Cup golds while the K2 combinations are still being assessed.

Canoe Racing New Zealand boss Mark Weatherall says the entire squad impressed at the World Cups.

"Our coaches will be formulating combinations for the world championships over the coming weeks," he said.

"Every one of our paddlers in this team has proven themselves world-class, so it will be exciting to see what sort of performances they can produce."
