NZ thrash Jordan but exit U17 World Cup

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 8/10/2016

New Zealand have exited the under-17 women's World Cup on a bright note, hammering hosts Jordan 5-0 in Zarqa.

Hannah Blake scored a hat-trick while Sam Tawharu bagged a double in their final group game, having earlier lost 5-0 to Mexico and 2-0 to Spain, results which ensured they wouldn't advance to the quarter-finals.

It was New Zealand's second-ever win at the tournament. The first was secured at the inaugural event on home soil in 2008 when they beat Colombia 3-1 in Wellington.

Some members of the squad will represent New Zealand again at the under-20 women's World Cup next month in Papua New Guinea.
