Tries to Renee Wickcliffe and Portia Woodman gave the Kiwis a 12-0 halftime lead before Michaela Blyde wrapped up the win with a second-half hat-trick.

Uncapped teenager Alena Saili also crossed in New Zealand's six-try win, with Joanne Lagona securing a late consolation try for Papua New Guinea right on the whistle.

New Zealand, who beat Olympic gold medallists Australia 17-5 in last month's opening tournament in Dubai, play Canada and France in their remaining pool matches.
