NZ win under-20 opener against Scotland

Winger Tima Faingaanuku has scored a hat-trick as New Zealand beat Scotland 42-20 to open their campaign at the under-20 rugby world championship in Georgia.

The five-time tournament champions scored six tries to three in Kutaisi, with Tasman flyer Faingaanuku crossing twice in the first spell to put them 19-10 ahead.

Hooker Asafo Aumua scored the other first-half try while flanker Dalton Papalii and second five-eighth Orbyn Leger crossed in the second spell.

First five-eighth Tiaan Falcon kicked 12 points.

Scotland's final try came late in the game while New Zealand were down a man after Papalii was shown a yellow card.

New Zealand's next pool opponents on Sunday are Italy, who lodged a 22-21 win over Ireland.
