New Zealand doubles players Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell have both bowed out in the quarter-finals of an ATP grass court tournament.

Venus, who this month clinched the French Open crown with American Ryan Harrison, lost a tense match 7-6 4-6 10-6 to third seeds Jamie Murray (Great Britain) and Bruno Soares (Brazil).

Qualifiers Daniell and Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner also succumbed in a tiebreaker, beaten 7-6 1-6 10-8 by Marin Cilic (Croatia) and Marcin Matkowski (Poland).

There is one more week of grass court tournament play before Wimbledon begins on July 3.
