Oil tanker still crashed on Haast Highway

The lack of equipment means that an oil tanker that crashed on the Haast Highway over the weekend is still blocking the road.

The truck heading to Wanaka rolled on State Highway 6, between Haast Pass-Makaroa Road and Marks Road, on Sunday morning.

The equipment needed to move the truck couldn't be brought to the scene on Sunday and it was hoped that it could be moved on Monday, a police spokeswoman says.

The driver of the truck wasn't hurt and the fuel the tanker was carrying has now been drained, the Otago Daily Times reports.

The tanker, half on the road and half in a ditch, has forced the road down to one lane.
