Oliver wins Silver Scroll

Wellington's Thomas Oliver has beaten the likes of Tami Neilson and the Phoenix Foundation to land the top songwriting award in New Zealand for his song If I Move to Mars.

The first-time finalist for the APRA Silver Scroll also fended off other finalists Lydia Cole and Street Chant with the simple love song.

Rob Ruha won the Maioha Award for a second time with his stirring battle anthem 'Kariri' winning the award for exceptional waiata featuring te reo Maori.

Moana Maniapoto was also inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame at the awards.
