The crash between two vehicles occurred near Thames on State Highway 25 at around 1.25pm on Tuesday with the injured person flown by helicopter to Waikato Hospital.

The death was confirmed by St John, with the road between Kopu Bridge and the turn off to Turua now closed until further notice.

Emergency services also attended a second crash near Thames in which one person was seriously injured and two critically after a car crashed off a bank.

The incident occurred around 1.40pm on Kopu-Hikaui Road, near Thames, between Kirikiri Valley and Puketui Roads, police said.

The serious crash unit is investigating both crashes with motorists warned to expect delays.
