Online job ads are growing strongly with hospitality, tourism and construction leading the charge, says Employment Minister Paul Goldsmith.

His latest report shows overall online job ads grew by nearly 12 per cent in the last 12 months.

Hospitality and tourism were up 1.6 per cent in May, while construction and engineering were up 1.4 per cent.

The fastest growing occupations last month were in construction, with ads for machine drivers and operators increasing 2.6 per cent, and labourers increasing 2.4 per cent.

The government on Tuesday announced an extra $7 million was going to be put into apprenticeships and industry training over the next four years.

"It's pleasing to see that the jobs are already there for those industry trainees to go into," Mr Goldsmith said.
