Otago Polytechnic has made a statement in the style world by getting overseas recognition for its undergraduate fashion degree.

London-based website The Business of Fashion has included the polytechnic in its top-50 Global Fashion School Rankings.

The polytechnic is ranked 47th for its Bachelor of Design (Fashion), the only New Zealand degree to feature in the list and one of just four from Australasia.

Each academic programme was evaluated for global influence, learning experience and long-term value.

"We are absolutely thrilled to receive this international stamp of approval," said Margo Barton, from the polytechnic's School of Design.

"We are the world's southern-most design school and this ranking is an acknowledgement of the wonderful, world-class team we have here."

The release of the rankings coincides with New Zealand Fashion Week in Auckland and three recent Otago graduates will get to showcase their selections on Thursday.
