Outlook brightens for Phoenix defender

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 25/09/2016

Defender Tom Doyle should be back in action within a fortnight after suffering a minor hamstring strain during Wellington Phoenix's 2-1 pre-season win over Central Coast Mariners in Nelson on Saturday.

The 24-year-old left back limped off late in the second half, but tests revealed the injury wasn't as bad as first thought.

An assessment on Monday showed that Doyle suffered a grade one hamstring strain which generally takes 10 to 14 days to clear.

Doyle, whose recent performances have put him in the frame for international selection, will undergo a scan in the next few days.

He is in the running for the New Zealand squad to play Mexico and USA on October 8 and 11.
