Kiwi rally driver Hayden Paddon has secured sixth in the Rally of France in Corsica after an improved final day.

Paddon, 29, delivered the second-fastest time on Sunday's 54km special stage to reduce the gap to fifth-placed Craig Breen by more than 20 seconds.

After struggling to get to grips with the twisty tarmac on Saturday, Paddon said he had gone back to basics in a bid to improve.

The final-day performance would give him a platform upon which to push ahead in Rally of Spain next weekend.

"It gives us a bit more confidence, gives us some different information and data we can we can sit down with over the next week," Paddon said.

Paddon and Kiwi co-driver John Kennard finished more than two-and-a-half minutes behind French rally winner Sebastien Ogier.

They now sit in fourth in the world drivers' championship for the year.

Hyundai Motorsport teammate Thierry Neuville, who finished second behind Ogier in Corsica, takes Paddon's place in third while Volkswagen driver Andreas Mikkelsen lies second overall.
