Pakistan grind out win over Black Sticks

Pakistan have held on to defeat the Black Sticks 2-1 in the fourth match of a five-Test series.

Pakistani captain Abdul Haseem Khan was the hero for his side in Clareville in the Wairarapa on Wednesday, nabbing the opening goal before Jonty Kearney drew the Kiwis level with a scrappy effort.

Khan then scored a second goal just before half-time, which turned out to be the winner as the Pakistanis rode out the match.

The Black Sticks now trail 2-1 after four games, with one last chance to level up the series in Clareville on Thursday evening.

Head coach Darren Smith was disappointed by the loss and his side's second-half profligacy but felt his troops dictated parts of the game.

"It was a mixed game with an element of softness in the two goals we gave away, which were not particularly well earned," Smith said.

"That's frustrating, when you see those ones go in."
