Joseph Parker has received support from a boxing legend as he prepares for a fight that will give him a shot at a world title if he wins.

The great Manny Pacquiao has used Twitter to offer his best wishes to Parker for his IBF heavyweight bout against France-based Cameroonian Carlos Takam in Auckland.

"Wishing @JoeBoxerParker the best of luck this Saturday in his heavyweight title elimination fight against @CarlosTakam," he tweeted.

Pacquiao, 37, is the first boxer to win world titles in eight divisions.

He is pursuing a political career in the Philippines while there is also speculation about whether he will compete at the Rio Olympics in August.

Parker, 24, is undefeated in his 18-fight professional career.

Takam has a record of 33 wins, two losses and a draw, and the 35-year-old's only defeat in the past seven years came against Russian Alexander Povetkin 18 months ago.

Povetkin was due to challenge American Deontay Wilder for the WBC crown in Moscow this weekend.

However, that fight has been postponed after Povetkin tested positive to meldonium, although he says he hasn't taken the substance since it was banned in January.
