Parker's team lines up Ruiz bout

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 2/10/2016

A world title fight for Kiwi boxer Joseph Parker could take place in Auckland in December.

Promoter Dean Lonergan says he is "95 per cent" confident that the 24-year-old will fight for the WBO title against Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jr.

He is in discussions with US promoter Bob Arum after Parker's crushing win over Alexander Dimitrenko on Saturday.

Lonergan told the Paul Henry Show a December 10 title fight was dependent on the WBO stripping Tyson Fury of his belt.

Fury is set to be stripped of his WBO crown after failing to defend his title in the ring within nine months.

That would set up a likely IBF fight between former champion Wladimir Klitschko and current British champion Anthony Joshua.

Fury has also reportedly failed a drug test for cocaine after earlier pulling out of an October 29 rematch with Klitschko.

Lonergan says Parker, who recorded a third-round TKO in Manukau against Dimitrenko, would warrant a seven-figure purse for the title fight against WBO No.3-ranked Ruiz.

Parker remains the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Joshua and had been scheduled to fight for that belt in either November or March.
