Paseka announces pregnancy

NZN 11/06/2016

Six-cap Silver Ferns shooter Malia Paseka will be taking a break from netball after announcing she is expecting a baby later this year.

The talented 21-year-old, who made her New Zealand debut less than a year ago, has turned out for the Magic in all of their nine trans-Tasman league games to date.

But she said on Saturday she won't be playing any further games, although she is keen to get back on court next year.

Magic coach Julie Fitzgerald said Paseka was a valued member of the Magic, both on and off the court.

"We're all very happy for her at this exciting time," Fitzgerald said.

"We also look forward to helping her resume her careeer after the arrival of her baby in November."

Fitzgerald said no replacement is being brought into the Magic, who have three international calibre shooters in Jo Harten, Ellen Halpenny and Paula Griffen.

After going winless for the first six matches of the season, the Magic have now won four matches on end, and sit second in the New Zealand conference.
