Pasifika community leaders, iwi and business representatives will join a political contingent on a tour of Cook Islands, Niue and Tonga this month.

Prime Minister Bill English will lead the trip, joined by Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee and Minister of Pacific Peoples Alfred Ngaro.

The visit to the three countries will be the first for the trio since taking on those roles.

"The mission is a reflection of the close relationship we have with our Pacific neighbours and the high regard New Zealand places on these relationships," Mr English said announcing the trip on Thursday.

In the Cook Islands he will meet with Prime Minister Henry Puna and cabinet ministers to discuss regional and domestic issues while in Tonga he will meet with Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva and Deputy Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni.

"New Zealand has deep links with Tonga so I'm looking forward to the opportunity to exchange views and discuss how we can continue to support our shared goals," he said.

Tourism will be the focus in Niue, though Mr English will sit down with Premier Toke Talagi.
