Police have given up hope of finding missing North Shore woman Pat Wearn alive, nearly a week after she disappeared.

The 73-year-old hasn't been seen since leaving her Torbay home for a walk on Monday.

But searches are continuing for Mrs Wearn, who has Alzheimer's disease.

"Sadly we have now well passed the survivability expectations for Mrs Wearn, and although we are continuing the search (on Sunday), tomorrow we will be reviewing our search options," Inspector Sunny Patel said.

Mrs Wearn had been shopping with her husband on Monday morning and left home around noon to go on a regular walk.

Extensive air, sea and bush searches, involving hundreds of experts and volunteers, have failed to find any trace of her.

Police divers also searched a number of ponds and waterways without success.

"We are asking anyone who has been away on holiday and lives in the Torbay area to please search your property," Insp Patel said.
