Pearce set to return against Tigers

Mitchell Pearce is expected to return from his State of Origin concussion in the Sydney Roosters' NRL clash with Wests Tigers on Sunday.

The Roosters' Origin quintet have been given the next few days off, but the club said they expected Pearce to join Boyd Cordner, Dylan Napa, Aidan Guerra and Blake Ferguson back at training on Friday.

While concussion protocols need to be followed after the 28-year-old NSW halfback's heavy knock in last week's Origin series-opener, the 11-day turnaround between games will work in his favour.

The positive news comes after Cordner inspired the Roosters to an 18-16 win over Brisbane on Saturday.

Three nights after leading NSW to triumph at Suncorp Stadium last week, the ironman forward backed up for another 80 minutes to spearhead the Roosters to victory.

Fellow club co-captain Jake Friend said the fine display showed Cordner is up there as the NRL's form player.

"He's definitely one of them," Friend said.

"All the players came back and did their jobs - they were probably the difference in the win.

"But Boyd especially, to play two performances like that in a week was pretty special from him."

Having squeezed into fourth spot at the Broncos' expense, the Roosters are readying to face the 15th-placed Tigers at Campbelltown.

"We're still pushing for that perfect performance," Friend said.

"We've had patches throughout the year when we've got our footy on but there's plenty of improvement in us yet."
