Police investigating a serious assault in Hutt Valley which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital have identified a person they want to speak to.

They say they believe David Haddon, 36, of Wainuiomata, could assist in their inquiry.

The victim, who is also 36, was attacked by two men at a Delaney Drive address on Monday night.

He is in intensive care in Wellington Hospital with a fractured skull and other injuries.

A 20-strong police team is working on the inquiry.

Detectives are also appealing for people who might have information on the assault or who saw a light coloured vehicle leaving the area at the time.

They are also seeking information from people who might have seen a black Mitsubishi Legnum around Stokes Valley and Wainuiomata over the past few days.
