Pharmac will get a $39 million boost in the budget, the government says.

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman made the pre-budget announcement on

Wednesday, saying it was part of a $124m increase over four years.

The government drug-buying agency says the extra cash will allow it to open consultations on seven new drugs for the treatment of melanoma, Hepatitis

C, tumours and other ailments.

It said one of those would be advance melanoma drug nivolumab, which goes under the trade name Opdivo, rather than rival drug Keytruda.
