Pokies emptied in Taupo pub robbery

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 29/03/2017

Up to $3000 in coins was taken from pokie machines in a Taupo pub after an offender gained entry by making a hole in a wall.

Police say they want to hear from anyone with information about the burglary, which happened at Finn MacCuhal's Irish Pub a month ago.

They also want to hear from local businesses that may have had customers trying to pay for items with a large amount of coins.

Police say the offender got into the pub just after 5am on February 25 and took $2000 to $3000 from the machines.

After leaving, the person walked along Tuwharetoa Street and crossed Tongariro Street into South Domain towards the bowling club on Ferry Road.

The offender may then have got into a dark-coloured station wagon, which was last seen leaving Ferry Road and travelling south along Lake Terrace.
