A woman was sexually assaulted as she walked home from a concert in Lincoln, Christchurch police say.

The 48-year-old woman had left the Lincoln Event Centre on her own about 6.30pm on Saturday and was going along Meijer Drive on to North Belt when the attack happened.

Detective Sergeant Phil Sparks says the victim was grabbed from behind and pushed a short distance off the road to where she was assaulted.

During the attack, she lost a fine gold chain bracelet with a heart-shaped gold locket that has a small diamond on one side and a keyhole on the other.

Det Sgt Sparks says the attack occurred between 6.30pm and 8pm, which means it was still daylight.

He says members of the public may have seen something that can help in identifying the offender.

Police also want to hear from anyone who saw the victim leave the concert or witnessed an interaction between a man and a woman in the area.

The victim is described as being of thin build with a dark bob haircut. She was wearing a black straw hat, a light grey dress, brown leather boots and a denim jacket, and she was carrying two small backpacks.
