They are also wanting to speak to 35-year-old Timaru man George David Henry Smith.

Police say Mr Smith is thought to be armed and should not be approached.

Ms Brown, also known as Nicole Smith, was last seen in her maroon and silver Toyota Hiace van, registration AZZ286, in the vicinity of Ayr St about 5am on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney says Mr Smith, who is 2.13m tall, has access to a silver Ford Territory, registration DFK591.

"As well as hearing from members of the public, we'd also like to hear from Nicole and George," he said.

"We'd welcome any contact from either of them so we know they're ok."
