Police happy with Hyde Street behaviour

The arrest of ten people, mainly for trespass and disorderly behaviour, at this year's Hyde Street Party in Dunedin is being hailed as a good result.

Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) took over running the annual party in a street of student flats after unruly scenes embarrassed the university.

Furniture fires, roof collapses and abuse of emergency workers have all been issues in the past.

The event held during the day on Saturday was ticketed and police say they worked closely with OUSA in preparing for it.

It was a well-run event, and OUSA should be commended for the effort it put in to organising the party, police said.

The general behaviour was good and it was a positive time for those attending.
