Police hunt barefoot runner

A Northland man is actively avoiding police after evading officers who attempted to arrest him for allegedly breaching court release conditions relating to domestic assault charges.

Mark Andrew Fletcher, 39, fled barefoot into bush and nearby farmland from a rural property near Hukerenui, north of Whangerei, on Thursday morning.

Officers were armed due to the belief there were firearms at the property, and discovered two guns inside the house after Fletcher fled.

"A police search is underway to locate Fletcher and while we currently believe he is not armed, we are strongly advising that he should not be approached," Senior Sergeant Steve Dickson said.
