Police have named the two-year-old girl who died after being struck by a car in the driveway of a Waikato home.

She was Tyler Te Ruru Ahurei Davis, of Te Kauwhata.

Waikato road policing manager Inspector Freda Grace says the serious crash unit is investigating the matter.

However, initial indications are that Tyler was struck by a reversing vehicle.

"This is a terrible tragedy for the family and police urge all drivers to check, check and check again that the way is clear before reversing," Insp Grace said.

Police and St John Ambulance attended the incident in Te Kauwhata about 11.45 on Monday but the girl died at the scene.
