NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 22/08/2016

A woman who died after being hit by a motorcycle north of Auckland had apparently crossed the road to warn others of a minor crash.

Police have named the woman as Medelina Muir, 61, of Kaiwaka.

They say she was travelling north at the Pohuehue Viaduct on Sunday night and following a car driven by someone she knew, when that car had a nose-to-tail collision by Schollum Access Rd.

Mrs Muir stopped and went to help, and police say it appears she crossed the road to warn on-coming traffic.

She was hit by a motorcycle coming around the corner and died at the scene.

Police are continuing their investigations and says it is not yet known if any charges will be laid.
