NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 29/05/2016

Police have ordered 35 heavy vehicles off the road after they were found to be unsafe during a four-day operation in the South Island.

The operation undertaken in Christchurch, Blenheim, Ashburton and North Canterbury stopped more than 1000 heavy vehicles and issued 104 infringement notices to drivers between May 16-22.

Infringement notices were dished out for offences including mobile phone use, logbook omissions and overweight or insecure loads among others, police say.

In addition to the trucks ordered off the road, another 13 vehicles were found to be in need of urgent attention.
