Police are seeking information about a man with a distinctive dragon tattoo after a report of a boy being grabbed on the way to school in Auckland.

Detective Senior Sergeant James Bothamley says the 14-year-old was walking along Lancaster Road in Beachhaven around 8am on Wednesday.

The boy described being approached by a man in his 60s, being grabbed and put into a car, but managing to fight him off and run away.

The man's tattoo was described as having the dragon's mouth over the man's mouth, while the dragon's body went from his left ear, across his cheek to his mouth.

Det Sen Sgt Bothamley says the boy is thought to have suffered several seizures during this time.

He says anyone who saw a teenage boy in uniform walking on Lancaster Road and looking unwell, and who may have stopped to help, is asked to contact police.

Tattooists who may have done a tattoo of that description for a man recently are also asked to get in touch.

Det Sen Sgt Bothamley says specialist child interviewers will interview the boy in the next few days.

He says police are unable to comment further until the interview has occurred and they have established a fuller picture of the circumstances.
