Police seeking owners of jewellery

Wellington police searching for drugs have uncovered property estimated to be worth more than $50,000, including watches and jewellery, and they want to find the owners.

Detective Sergeant Shane Dye says a number of the items, which are believed to have been stolen, are distinctive.

"The nature of the jewellery suggests it could be heirlooms and be irreplaceable to its owners," he said.

"I'm sure there's a number of people who will be relieved to be reunited with their property."

Det Sgt said the find was made while police were undertaking search warrants for drugs.

He said burglaries were invasive to the victims and, when items with sentimental value were taken, it was particularly distressing.
