Police are appealing for witnesses to the police shooting of a man in Rotorua, including those who captured it on camera and posted it to the internet.

The 35-year-old man was shot on July 14 on Te Ngae Rd, and was on electronically-monitored bail at the time.

He was pepper sprayed and then hit with a 50,000-volt Taser gun three times without effect before being shot twice. No police were injured.

Police have interviewed a number of people over the incident but are still seeking more witnesses who they believe could hold vital information.

In particular, they want to talk to some young men who released a video of the shooting at the time.

The shot man remains in hospital in a critical condition.
