Port Hills fire 99pc controlled

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 27/02/2017

The perimeter around the Port Hills fire is now '99 per cent controlled', more than two weeks after the fires first broke out.

There is at least a 10 metre break between the edge of the fire zone and vegetation, the Christchurch City Council says.

However, there are still hotspots being found around the area, albeit at a reduced rate.

Around 20 fire crews are working in the Port Hills area currently.

Visits to the GP will be free for those affected by the fire for the next two months, and the Civil Defence are offering payments for those families who have been severely impacted.
