Potato farmer wins rural bachelor award

The 35-year-old Golden Gumboot trophy winner was also presented with a package of prizes at a ceremony on the final day of Fieldays in Waikato.

"Good on ya Spud," friends posted on Facebook.

Mr Olsen thanked the seven other finalists, two of whom had travelled from Australia to compete.

"The week has been absolutely amazing," he said.

Angus beef farmer Rob Ewing from Victoria, Australia, won the People's Choice award.

The eight finalists competed in 13 challenges covering a wide range of skills while having fun along the way.

Former Bachelor NZ contestant Alicia Cowan, 27, was on hand during the week to give advice to the competitors.

Fieldays, the largest agriculture event in the southern hemisphere, drew to a close on Saturday.
