Pregnant woman bitten by dogs

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 12/04/2016

A pregnant Christchurch woman has been bitten on the arms and legs by two dogs which were not registered or microchipped, the Christchurch City Council says.

The woman, in her 20s, was taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries following the incident in an Avondale home about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Police were called to the house and animal control officers took possession of the dogs.

They were described as Staffordshire/terrier/mastiff-type dogs, a council spokeswoman says.

"The council has no records of either dogs, as they are not microchipped or registered."

The council is investigating the attack, but no statements have yet been taken from either the victim or the owner of the dogs.

The incident follows the mauling of a seven-year-old boy in Auckland who then required 100 stitches in his face, which sparked debate about dog control laws.
