New Zealand's Alexis Pritchard has made an emphatic start to the women's boxing world championships in Kazakhstan, winning her first-round fight by knockout.

Pritchard knocked out Moldovan Lilia Venglovscaia a minute into the contest to book a second-round fight against Japan's Ayako Minowa.

The 32-year-old Aucklander is seeking to qualify for her second Olympics after competing in London four years ago. She requires a top-five finish to book her place in the lightweight 60kg class at Rio.

Two other Kiwis are also competing in Astana - middleweight Deanne Carpenter and light flyweight Sunita Lallu.
