Police hope an autopsy will provide clues to the unexplained death of a man whose body was found inside a bale of cardboard at a Hamilton factory.

The body was discovered by a worker at the OJI Fibre Solutions cardboard processing plant on Pukeko St in Hamilton on Tuesday.

Police had yet to identify the man, or explain how he ended up inside the bale by the evening and were treating the death as unexplained.

They said they hoped to provide further updates following a post-mortem examination on Wednesday.

The company has declined to comment.
