Prowler taking video of people inside home

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 5/05/2016

Police are searching for a man who has allegedly been sneaking around west Auckland houses and taking photos and videos of people inside on his mobile phone.

The man was seen by the occupant of a Grey Lynn home late on Wednesday evening filming them through the window on his mobile phone, prompting calls to the police.

He fled, and while officers used a tracker dog, they were unable to catch the man.

It's not the first time police have been called to the Grey Lynn area after previous reports of a man was taking pictures of people inside their homes in February and March.

It is believed to be the same person.

Police do not have a description of the man since all the instances when he has been seen it was dark, but are urging locals to keep their doors locked and curtains closed.

"The weather remains quite warm so people may choose to keep windows open but we'd encourage everyone to think about putting windows on a security lock, just to be sure," Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray said on Thursday.

Any suspicious sightings should be reported to 111.
